Senior Sunday

When I was in second grade, my teacher assigned each of us to create our own "chapter book." It was the first time I truly remember enjoying the beauty of writing and creating something all my own. Those little memories from my childhood blossomed into something grander, turning my love for writing and reading into passions I’ve relied on for years. Now, as a senior, with only a few Sundays left in my high school career, I find myself reflecting on everything I’m grateful for, what I’ve accomplished so far, and what I hope to achieve in the years to come.

In third grade, my teacher ran a ticket system in the classroom. Whenever we did something stellar, we’d receive a carnival ticket, like the kind you’d find at a fair. We’d write our names on the tickets and toss them into a big basket by the door. I remember writing poetry every day for weeks just to earn one of those tickets. It was a small habit, but to my young mind, it was something special, and it made my elementary years unforgettable.

As I entered middle school, I became involved in musical theater, which quickly became one of my greatest passions. My first show was A Christmas Carol, and I had the most wonderful, cozy place in the ensemble. From there, I performed in countless shows, three times a year, and met incredible people along the way. What started as a hobby eventually became my job, and today I work in the theater, sharing my love of singing, acting, and performing with others. It’s truly an honor to teach and inspire children interested in music too!

n high school, when I started at my new online school, I was granted incredible opportunities. I joined the National Honor Society, the Newspaper Club, and the Debate Club, and I performed in the Musical Theater Club, as well as being active in the Student Council. Each of these activities opened doors for exploration and growth, and I cherish every moment. But my favorite memory by far was prom 2024, where I had the chance to wear a Cinderella-inspired dress. PA Cyber will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m grateful for the teachers, the friendships, and the memories I’ve made along the way.

After 10th grade, I took on a part-time job at Kohl’s, which not only helped me build new friendships but also gave me a deeper understanding of the real world. Customer service is no easy job, but it has taught me valuable lessons. Balancing two jobs while attending school full-time has been challenging, but it’s something I truly cherish.

As I reflect on everything I’ve accomplished, I can’t help but feel proud and grateful. But now it’s time to look ahead. I aspire to be an inspiration to others, especially children. Mental health has always been a cause close to my heart, and I want to be that supportive rock for someone who needs it. My goal is to attend college to become a child therapist, and I plan to incorporate music into my practice. Becoming a mental health advocate is my dream, and I’m excited for what the future holds.

Being a senior still feels unreal. I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved, and I know there’s more to come. I wouldn’t be who I am today without my incredible support system, and I have so much to be grateful for.

And who knows? Maybe I’ll even get to speak at graduation!

Jill
