A Sonnet's Dream

Every little girl dreams of the day they get to show off her fancy ring, walk down the aisle with the man who raised her, and kiss their lover in a rose-lit garden or sandy beach shore with their friends and family gathered to celebrate. I haven’t experienced many weddings in my life, but what I witnessed at this celebration was spiritual and warm. My friend, Sonnet, had a beautiful wedding, and it would be a disservice not to share her special day.

When I woke up on August 9th, I felt a rush of excitement and worry, not knowing what to expect for the day. My friend, Summer, invited me to her twin sister’s wedding to enjoy a night full of engagement, dancing, and a lot of happiness. I brushed out my curls, wore my black pajamas to match the other girls, and before I knew it I was on my way to their hotel to get ready.

Upon arriving I met Sum outside so she could let me inside the hotel. It was a very glamorous hotel with those doors you had to push and spin to enter. It was all very new to me, and once we entered the elevator, I felt some pressure as to how many people I would meet. I usually am very open when meeting others, but when we walked into this huge hotel room, I was in complete awe. It was a modern concept apartment-styled room with a lot of mirrors for all the bridesmaids and friends to get ready. When I first saw Sonnet, I placed my things down and gave her a hug. I was so excited to see one of my friends get married, and I could feel her happiness radiating.

Once Sonnet, “Sonny,” finished getting ready, I quickly finished Sum’s makeup, and shortly after mine, and before I could blink I was told to grab my things because we were going to the Aviary to set up. I can’t walk, let alone run in heels, but I made do. The bridesmaids were all people so important to Son, so I knew it was important to help them make the day special. Once we set up, I had a quick walk-through of the Aviary and was greeted by the toucans, penguins, and some eagles. It was a very refreshing way to lighten the mood before the chaos.

Around 5:15 in the evening, the guests arrived at the garden, decorated with about every flower and plant you could imagine. Two pillars stood at the front of the garden with powder blue hydrangeas perfecting its beauty and each seat had a program and folding fan for comfort. I sat about 5 rows back and waited shortly for the ceremony to begin. Once the bridesmaids and groomsmen/women started to make their way down the aisle, I knew it was time to begin.

It was a really special moment to watch Sonnet gracefully step down the aisle next to the love of her life. Little did she know how excited I was for her. One of my favorite parts of the night was when three of the family members including Sum sang, “God Bless The Broken Road,” during the ceremony. After the song, I started tearing up, seeing my beautiful best friends celebrating each other in such a sweet and warm way, and I loved every minute of it. After they exchanged vows and lips, they were married, and it was time for the reception to begin!

Son’s dress was a beautiful ballgown wrapped in sparkles and elegant sleeves. She was an absolutely stunning bride. After dinner, Sum gave a small but sweet speech, and it was time for the festivities. The night was full of pictures, polaroids, dancing, and love. Ultimately, the night was perfect. Sum and I danced our feet off, and after a while, I turned in my heels for, “comfy” shoes. It was a night to remember.

I could list an endless amount of details from the wedding, like how there was a cookie table with 1,600 treats, but I wanted to share the most special moments from the day. I am extremely grateful Son shared her special day and moment with me to witness and experience with her. I’ll forever be thankful for her friendship and kindness. I am so happy for you Son, forever & always.

Latte Love,

Jill☕️💒
