Do you ever have a thought stuck in your head and no matter what, you can’t seem to let it go? Certain things will eat away at my brain all day, but I don’t truly get to experience what it makes me feel like until I’m alone. There’s something so comforting about listening to jazz music at 12 in the morning while it’s thundering and writing out all my girly little thoughts that are slowly picking away at my soul. Welcome to midnight thoughts, an experience that will take you on an emotional roller coaster.
There’s a new song that one of my favorite artists came out with about a week ago. Not only does she literally have the most angelic voice in the entire world, but sometimes when you hear a song and relate to it so much, you just feel a certain type of way. Is it sadness, heartache, betrayal, or maybe a little bit of it all? If you are a jazz fan, check out Laufey, one of my favorite artists who has a song for probably about any minor or major inconvenience in your life.
My point is, how does so much hatred and dissatisfaction live in a world created by people? If Laufey can make a song about how heartbroken she is, how many people in the world have truly experienced the same feelings and can relate exactly to how she feels? Why does there have to be so much hurt in the world?
Her new lyrical masterpiece, “Goddess” is about being a totally glamorous idol on stage while she’s performing, but when she is alone, she’s completely the opposite. She is just an ordinary person. She speaks about how she feels so betrayed by her lover because they don’t actually know anything about her. Due to how ambiguous the song is, I made up my interpretation of the song. I interpreted it to a recent event that just happened in my life, that I was really sad over and felt so betrayed by people I thought I could trust.
“You took me for a fool, you stole my youth, you wanted this so much, you watched me rise, then killed my light, and now you know I’m not your perfect goddess.” When she sings about how the person or people she trusted killed her light, it breaks my heart just a little bit. When I think back to people in my life, old friends, family members, or people I just genuinely trusted, I just can’t help but feel betrayed, like I’m sure Laufey and the millions other’s listening to her have felt.
Having midnight thoughts can be exhausting but they can also bring very good topics to mind. At least I got a story to share out of this beautiful song and the silly things running through my 17-year-old mind. If you have any midnight thoughts, make sure to share them in the comments below.

I think most folks have very few midnight thoughts. In this world of today, stress, no matter the reason or cause of it, leaves them exhausted. Many fall asleep quickly or are induced to thoughtlessness with some type of material help. You are finding value in your thoughts. Just find and accept the differences in the positive ones and negative ones.
